AutoCAD Extend Command

Hello, Friends
Today We will see Extend Command. Extend command is used to extend the edges of the 2D object to other 2D object's edge.

Command: Extend (Enter)
Short-cut : Ex (Enter)
Menu : Modify > Extend
Ribbon / Tool icon :

There is a difference in Extend Command in AutoCAD 2021 Version & Prior Versions. In AutoCAD 2021 Version, By default, all the edges of objects act as Boundary Edges. In Prior Versions, You have to first select the boundary edge then you can extend the objects.

Boundary Edges(B): You can Select Specific Object as Boundary Edges in this option. You can select one or more Boundary Edges.

Crossing(C): You can use Crossing Selection method to select the edges of objects to the boundary edge.

mOde(O): Select the mode: Quick or Standard (New option from AutoCAD 2021)

Quick(q): In this mode, All the objects in the drawing act as Boundary edges. So you can extend objects individually. By default selection method is fence.you can selection objects by specifying two points in fence selection.

Standard(s): In this mode, You have to first select the boundary edges. Objects are extended only to that specified boundary edge.

Fence(f): All the objects are selected which cross fence line.you can specify one or more fence lines.

Project(p): Specify Projection methods to extend the objects.

None(n): There is no projection in this method. Only those objects will be extended which intersect to boundary edges in 3D space.

UCS(u): Specify projection onto the XY plane of the current UCS. Objects that do not intersect to boundary edges are extended in 3D space.

View(v): Specify projection along the current view direction.

Edge(e): Extends the object to the Boundary edge of another object which intersects it in 3D space.

Extend(e): Extend the object in the natural direction to intersect the boundary edge into 3d space.

No extend (n): Extend the objects only when it intersects to boundary edges into 3d space.

Undo(u): Reverse the most recent action in the Extend command.

Note: We can Extend the Objects in Trim Command & Trim the objects in Extend command using SHIFT Key.
